Request for Comments: Draft Bioethics Program, to be established at Chulalongkorn University. The public is cordially invited to provide comments on this draft, which include the rationale and analysis of the program (in Thai) and the actual program structure (in English). The program is one calendar year long (three semesters) and will be opened in the academic year 2006 (starting September 2006); it will be conducted entirely in English.
This project aims at creating a collaborative, interdisciplinary and international course of study, eventually leading to a master's degree program, that combines the legal, ethical, as well as economic and management aspects of the life sciences. It is funded by the Europea Commission under the ASEAN-EU University Network Programme (AUNP), and is also supported by Chulalongkorn University. The program will be organized by the Project for Science, Technology and Society, Chulalongkorn University for ASEAN, by the University of Lueneburg/ European Academy for Environment and Economy for Europe and will be joined by scholars from the EU and ASEAN countries. Target groups include health care organizations and workers who stand in need of a proper training in social and cultural aspects of advances in the life sciences, as well as business organizations, many of which are strongly affected by these advances. Main activities include setting up of the degree program, collaborative workshops among the participants, and production and dissemination of joint research efforts. Partnership in the two-year project consists of scholars and institutions from Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Germany, UK, and Spain. There are altogether eight participating universities in the project, viz. Chulalongkorn University, Lueneburg University/Europea Academy for Environment and Economy, University of the Philippines, Lancaster University, Vietnam National University, University of the Basque Country, Universiti Sains Malaysia and Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena.
Main activities of the Project will include: holding the total of four workshops among the participants, producing course material for bioethics, biolaw and biomanagement in form of book publication together with newsletters and this website.
